I’m grateful for the summer season with less of a schedule and more time with family. As fall approaches, I’m prepared to be busy with my kids’ schedules as well as work.
I’m working on a couple of book assignments that have been a bit more intense than I anticipated. I just turned in one assignment and am working on the next now. I’m enjoying the research and writing and hopeful to find my groove soon.
Fall really is a wonderful time of new beginnings, open windows, and a colorful world. Are you ready?
Thank you so much for reading my newsletter on this new-to-me platform. Like always, I’m here to celebrate curiosity. To celebrate this new way to share, I have a book giveaway. Read to the end to see how to enter!
Summer Highlights
Overall, I had a great summer. I stayed busy with work while leaving room for summer family fun. Some work highlights include programs with a bookstore (but at an ice cream shop), library, homeschool conference, and online with teachers and book lovers in Taiwan. It was my first time needing an interpreter! They were each memorable experiences, but speaking to the group in Taiwan felt like an incredible honor.
My family visited Lake Ontario and Niagara Falls (both the American and Canadian sides) earlier this month. The lake was too choppy for us to swim or kayak, but we got plenty wet at the falls. It was also my children’s first time being out of the country (even if it was only for an afternoon).

Curiosity and Wonder
Fall’s Arrival: September 22, 2024 is the fall equinox/first day of fall in the northern hemisphere. On the fall equinox, day and night are approximately equal in length! Nature begins the preparations for winter’s rest. (I look forward to resting, too!) Learn more about the fall equinox.

Sharks: If you can’t wait for my book Chomp! The Truth About Sharks, you can read 50 quick, cool facts about the incredible animals.
KidLit Nonfiction Recommendation
I read Kirsten W. Larson’s The Fire of the Stars: The Life and Brilliance of the Woman Who Discovered What Stars Are Made Of. The beautiful picture book is illustrated by Katherine Roy and shares parallel biographies of Cecilia Payne and a star. (Really!) Definitely recommend.
